Yoga in Nozawa Onsen with Rowie at SHizen

It’s been 4 years since I began teaching yoga in Nozawa onsen (Japan) and almost 3 years since founding Shizen Yoga studio here.

Situated in a quiet corner of Nozawa overlooking the mountains on level 2 of Shimataya View Hotel. The studio is light filled with traditional tatami floor, premium yoga mats and props, central heating, AC, community tea area and lots of plants.

CLASS TYPES:

FIRST TRACKS FLOW/FLOW YOGA: Flow Yoga with Rowie is a modern, fluid and dynamic practice, open to all levels. It is a physical and mindful the practice that will challenge, strengthen and lengthen your body, whilst calming your mind. Flow yoga is characterised by smooth transitions between asanas paired with active and mindful movement of the breath. Whether you are new to yoga or have been practicing for a long time, Rowie will adjust the practice and give options to suit everyone in the space. *First tracks Yoga begins at 6:30am and is the only classes at the Cafe space. All other classes are at Shizen View hotel space.

YIN BLISS: Yin Yoga is a passive, relaxing, deep stretch style of yoga. Entirely floor based, all poses are done lying down or seated. The practice asks students to relax, exerting minimal effort, instead holding the poses for longer periods of time (3-6 minutes) particularly targeting the hips, back and lower body to promote flexibility. Perfect for beginner and anyone wishing to develop and improve their flexibility.

YANG YIN YOGA: A class that slows you down and helps you move out stagnant energy and tension. We begin practice with a Slow Flow sequence and finish with slow stretch Yin Yoga postures/long passive holds.

YASAI YOGA: Beginners Yoga for the community. Slow, Simple Beginner 30 minute practice taking you through simple strecthes and slow movements. Pay for the class by donating vegetables farmed from your garden OR with a ¥500 coin donation.

Classes open to locals and tourists, all are welcome, please make a reservation via email or Dm on instagram or facebook.

Private 1:1 and Private Group classes at the studio or at guest accommodations available.

Classes are in English unless otherwise specified

Includes mat rental. Cash only please.

Visitors:

  • Introductory offer: 3 classes ¥6000

  • Casual Class: ¥2500 per class

  • 5 class ticket: ¥11000 (valid 3 months)

  • 20 class ticket ¥20,0000 (valid 3 months)

  • Private Yoga sessions: ¥7000 (1-2 people, + ¥1500 every additional person)

Local/Staff Prices:

  • Casual class: ¥2000

  • 10 class pass ¥17,000

  • Unlimited season membership ¥40,000 (expires April 5th 2024)

What to bring to your yoga class?

  • Bring your own yoga mat or rent one of our eco, non slip yoga mats for ¥100.

  • Please arrive for each class at least 5 minutes before start time wearing comfortable clothing you can move and potentially sweat in. Rowie will be at the yoga space 15minutes before class should you wish to arrive even earlier.

  • Drinking water

  • Cash to pay for class if you do not have an existing class pass

  • Hand Sanitiser, toilet and change-room is available

Booking Conditions:
Winter Season: Please book at least 30 minutes in advance.
Green season: Please book at least 1 hour in advance.
Please pay in cash on arrival (we do not have credit card facilities)
